Manchester United transfer news LIVE Man Utd 'hold talks over Wan-Bissaka and Youri Tielemans'

Image
Manchester United are leading the way to sign Harry Maguire after Manchester City baulked at Leicester's asking price for the centre-back, according to reports. The Foxes are said to be holding out for a world-record fee for a defender amid United and City's respective interest in the England international. Maguire was among the Premier League's most accomplished centre-halves last season and, while it is thought the 26-year-old would favour a move to the Etihad, it is claimed that United are prepared to pay closer to Leicester's £80 million asking price than the Blues. Meanwhile, United continue to be linked with a move for the Newcastle midfielder Sean Longstaff. The 21-year-old is of the profile of player around whom Ole Gunnar Solskjaer plans to centre his United rebuild and it is claimed Longstaff remains on the Norwegian's high-up wishlist.

Image
Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose has said the news of the release of 21 Chibok girls abducted by the Boko Haram insurgents is just a diversionary tactic by the government. Fayose said that “it has become the practice of the All Progressives Congress (APC) led federal government to divert the attention of Nigerians each time it goofs.” He noted that the report could be a way to shift attention from the last week assault on our judges and the Judiciary by federal government , which has been widely condemned. Reacting through through his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, Governor Fayose said; “Nigerians are no longer interested in the lies and make believes of the APC led federal government. Rather, Nigerians want the economy fixed and food on their tables.” He said Nigerians should wait to see the set of girls said to have been released this time around before drawing any conclusion. “As for me, I keep my fingers crossed on thi

President Buhari invites UN as negotiator over Chibok girls

President Buhari told the United Nations Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon that Nigeria would welcome intermediaries from the global body as a show of commitment to swap the abducted schoolgirls from Chibok with Boko Haram fighters in custody. Speaking during a bilateral meeting with the UN Secretary General at the sidelines of the 71st UN General Assembly in New York, President Buhari said the Nigerian government was willing to enter into negotiations to get the Chibok girls released from captivity. He said: “The challenge is in getting credible and bona fide leadership of Boko Haram to discuss with,”. “The split in the insurgent group is not helping matters. Government had reached out, ready to negotiate, but it became difficult to identify credible leaders. We will welcome intermediaries such as UN outfits, to step in.” The President reiterated that the teachings of Boko Haram were far from being Islamic, as neither Islam, nor any other religion, advocates hurting the weak an

Barcelona Star, Lionel Messi out for three weeks

Barcelona star Lionel Messi will be sidelined for the next three weeks due to a groin strain, dealing a huge blow to his club and country. “To lose Lionel Messi means football loses and we lose,” said Barca boss Luis Enrique. Messi limped off just before the hour mark of the Spanish champions’ 1-1 draw with Atletico Madrid on Wednesday. The Argentine captain is set to miss his country’s World Cup qualifiers against Peru and Paraguay next month as well as Barca’s Champions League clash at Borussia Moenchengladbach. Messi will also sit on the Catalans’ La Liga trips to Sporting Gijon and Celta Vigo. However, Messi should be fit in time for a reunion with old boss Pep Guardiola when Manchester City visit the Camp Nou on Champions League duty on October 19. The five-time World Player of the Year missed Argentina’s World Cup qualifier with Venezuela earlier this month due to the problem and only started Barca’s shock 2-1 defeat to Alaves 10 days ago on the bench as coach Luis Enrique be
