My ministers are being blackmailed — Buhari

Image
President Muhammadu Buhari has said that some Nigerians are blackmailing his ministers and other top government officials by painting them with the brush of corruption without any concrete evidence. In a statement on Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, the President appealed to Nigerians to ignore what he called orchestrated attempts to sully the integrity of his ministers and other senior government officials. Specifically, Buhari faulted media report (not THE PUNCH) that the immediate past Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation and Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, was being investigated over crude oil swap deals and gas lifting during his tenure as the GMD of the NNPC. The President appealed for what he called decent and civilised comments, particularly when it had to do with the integrity of political office holders. He said while he would not spare anybody who soiled his hands

Portugal beat France to win Euro 2016

Image
Team captain Cristiano Ronaldo lifts the trophy It was ecstasy for Portugal and agony for France as the Selecao defeated hosts France to win Euro 2016. The Cristiano Ronaldo-led side despite all odds stunned the hosts after 109 minutes when substitute Eder struck to ensure the epic final did not get into a penalty shootout. Both sides played with a high level of caution from the first blast of the whistle; however the major talking point was in the 24th minute, when Cristiano Ronaldo signalled to be substituted mid-way through the first half after he was tripped by Dmitry Payer and then Evra on his left knee. Portugal need to thank goalkeeper Patricio who made strings of spectacular saves to deny the hosts, as the game ended 0-0 after 90minutes. Substitute Eder got the all-important goal after 109 minutes to ensure the Selecao win the tournament, as Cristiano Ronaldo finally win a trophy with his country. It ended; Portugal 1-0 France. Chinese woman pictured carrying her boyfriend on her back while crossing a flooded street so 'he won't ruin his expensive leather shoes'

Image
Love they say, is blind but not so much as in the case of one devoted girlfriend. A lady in China was pictured wading deep flood waters while carrying her boyfriend on her back, her reason? She didn't want her beloved to suffer the loss of his expensive shoes. The woman told Chinese media: 'I am wearing sandals so it doesn't matter that I cross the waterlogged area. He was wearing leather shoes which have to be washed laboriously [if they are soaked]. So it was easier that I carry him to cross the water.' He could have just taken his shoes off though, lol.

This Is The Deadliest Animal On Earth

Image
What animal kills the most people? Bears? Sharks? Snakes? Nope. None of those are the right answer. The answer is an animal that you can find almost anywhere. Killing over 1 million people each year and living on every continent except Antarctica, the deadliest animal is… the mosquito?! Allow us to explain. While male mosquitoes live off of plant nectar, female mosquitoes need the protein from blood in order to lay their eggs. A female mosquito retrieves the blood by sticking her thin, sharp proboscis into our flesh (now you know how a mosquito bites). Blood is drawn and she inserts some of her saliva, along with anticoagulants, to keep the blood from clotting. This is where potential danger comes into play – the mosquito saliva can contain viruses and parasites. These little bastards are notorious for transmitting diseases (e.g. malaria, dengue fever, yellow fever, encephalitis, West Nile virus). It’s not one type of mosquito that transmits diseases, but several – the

Do You Know? There is enough DNA in an average person’s body to stretch from the sun to Pluto and back — 17 times

Image
The human genome, the genetic code in each human cell, contains 23 DNA molecules each containing from 500 thousand to 2.5 million nucleotide pairs. DNA molecules of this size are 1.7 to 8.5 cm long when uncoiled, or about 5 cm on average. There are about 37 trillion cells in the human body and if you’d uncoil all of the DNA encased in each cell and put them end to end, then these would sum to a total length of 2×1014 meters or enough for 17 Pluto roundtrips (1.2×1013 meters/Pluto roundtrip).

The World's oldest male twins who have no children or wives turn 103 (photo)

Image
The World's oldest living male twins, Belgian men Pieter and Paulus Langerock, who have lived together most of their lives, celebrated at their care home on Friday as they turned 103. To this day, the brothers who barely leave each other’s side have never ever married, and share a room at their nursing home just outside the Belgian town of Ghent. The two men who have no children or grandchildren say they are each other's best friends as they celebrated with a glass of wine on Friday. After their long careers as court magistrates in the middle of the 20th century, the elegantly-dressed 103-year-olds prefer speaking French and being addressed as “Pierre and Paul”. They have another two years to go to break the record of US brothers Glen and Dale Moyer, both of whom reached 105 before dying.

President Obama reacts to the killing of two Black Americans by white police officers

Image
US President Obama says all Americans should be deeply troubled by the recent killings of two Black Americans by white police officers. He reacted via a post which he shared on his Facebook wall this evening. He wrote: All Americans should be deeply troubled by the fatal shootings of Alton Sterling in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Philando Castile in Falcon Heights, Minnesota. We've seen such tragedies far too many times, and our hearts go out to the families and communities who've suffered such a painful loss. Although I am constrained in commenting on the particular facts of these cases, I am encouraged that the U.S. Department of Justice has opened a civil rights investigation in Baton Rouge, and I have full confidence in their professionalism and their ability to conduct a thoughtful, thorough, and fair inquiry. But regardless of the outcome of such investigations, what's clear is that these fatal shootings are not isolated incidents. They are symptomatic of the broade

The host nation in a show of tactical masterclass scored a late goal in the first half through Antoinne Griezmann and scored in the second half through the same player- Griezmann. The match started with Germany dominating possession forcing all French players to withdraw within their half while Draxler, Ozil and Muller tried to open up spaces in the French defence. N'Golo Kante starred for France during the group stages but the Leicester City midfielder was left out of the starting XI to face the Germans as Didier Deschamps opted for a 4-2-3-1 system. Newcastle's Moussa Sissoko got the nod out wide to provide balance, with Antoine Griezmann occupying a more central role. Germany started without star defender Mats Hummels due to suspension and it showed when some late pressure with a minute to go before halftime, Bastian Schweinsteiger handled the ball in the penalty box,

The 23-year-old Musa, who scored a brace for Nigeria in a 3-2 defeat against Argentina in the 2014 World Cup finals, is to sign a five-year deal. “He’ll be leaving Tuesday,” CSKA coach Leonid Slutsky told Russian media of the player, who joined CSKA in 2012 and has scored 53 goals in 161 games. “And if you look at the way things are done over there you’ll see he is a player just made for English football,” Slutsky said.
